Cryin’ in the Wind

“Bathroom?”

She waved one hand toward a door on the opposite side of the bed from where they’d come in, but she didn’t lift her head or move otherwise. If it weren’t for the dazed smile she wore, he might have thought she was upset about something.

Cypher disposed of the condom, used the facilities then cleaned up. After washing his hands, he took a warm wet washcloth back into the bedroom and cleaned up Lauren as well. After tossing the cloth back into the bathroom, he stretched out on the bed beside her, but stayed propped up on one arm as he watched her until she looked his way.

“You good?” he asked.

“I’m good.” She grinned. “I’m not sure when I ever felt so good.”

“Good. You want me to stay or go?”

“Do you mind staying?”

“Not at all. If I minded, I wouldn’t have asked. Anything you need to do before bed? Plug in your phone? Feed any pets?”

“Just lock the front door.” She sighed then started to push herself upright.

“Stay there. I got it.” He got up and headed for the door, he was sure he’d locked it on the way in, but he would double check. “Think about where you want me to sleep while I’m gone.”

“I thought you were sleeping here?” he heard her mutter as he went to the front door, thumbed the lock, and found yes, it was still locked. He shook his head and continued through the little house, turning off lights and making sure the windows were locked. After checking the back door, he made his way back to the bedroom.

“I can’t believe you just wandered through my house naked,” Lauren said. While he’d been gone, she’d gotten under the blankets.

Cypher lifted one shoulder and let it fall. He didn’t care. He’d lost much of his concept of modesty while he’d been in the Navy.

“Which side you want me on?” He nodded down at the bed.

“Here.” She patted the bed beside her.

He climbed in and pulled the covers up over them both. She turned off the light with a switch beside the bed then rolled toward him. He wrapped one arm around her as she laid her head on his shoulder.

Cypher listened as her breathing evened out and she drifted off to sleep, wondering how much shit Roadkill, and worse, Jenna, would give him when they found out about this. Because if he had his way, this wouldn’t be a one-night thing.

He liked the therapist and he didn’t like the idea of her meeting clients at odd hours, especially not with any kind of security. Something would have to change about that. He was still thinking about options and what he could set up to make sure she could get help when she needed it.

“What are you up to?” Hex asked as he came into Cypher’s office.

“Researching something.” Cypher glanced at the club president then looked back to his computer screen.

“Is it something for the club or does it have more to do with you taking the therapist home last night?”

Cypher took a longer look at Hex, then turned his attention back to the screen before answering.

“I thought you’d still be in bed with your bride rather than concerned with what two grown adults are up to.”

“She wanted a bath. I’ve known Elle long enough to know that means she wanted a little time to herself. Don’t think I didn’t notice you not answering me.”

“Why does it have to be one or the other? Doesn’t making sure Squirt’s therapist is safe, and can continue seeing her, benefit the club as a whole?”

“I don’t know why I even bother to try to enforce order around here. Just tell me it’s not going to cost us a ton? With the wedding, things are a little tight this month.”

“I’ll see what I can do about that. See if I can find us a job or two to help refill the coffers. But this shouldn’t be much and I didn’t plan on using Warrior’s money for it anyway.”

“Just our time?”

“I didn’t realize I was punching a clock here.” Cypher didn’t bother to look away from the screen where he was looking up how to program the watch he’d noticed Lauren wearing this morning. There had to be a way to set it so she could discreetly signal him, without sending the message to emergency services as well, and he was determined to figure it out.

A growl let him know what Hex thought of his response.
