His voice in my ear.
The way he had held me.
The things he had said.
I pressed my lips together and headed toward Willow’s room.
This girl is going to think I don’ lost my damn mind.
At this point, I wasn’t entirely sure she’d be wrong.
I reached her door and knocked twice before pushing it open.
Willow was snoring when I entered her bedroom… not little, cute snores either. That bitch sounded like somebody was trying to start a lawnmower.
I closed the door behind me and walked toward her bed.
“Willow.”
Nothing.
I tapped her shoulder.
“Willow.”
She turned over, and I tapped her again.
“Girl, wake up. I need to tell you something!”
Willow pulled the covers over her head. “Go away.”
“Willow!”
She shot up so fast I jumped backward.
Before I could say anything, she reached beside her nightstand, grabbed a fire extinguisher, and pointed it toward me.
“What?! What’s wrong?!”
I stared at her as she looked around wildly.
“Is the house on fire?!”
Laughter burst out of me so hard I couldn’t even answer.
Willow blinked. “Lakelyn, what the hell is so funny?”
I pointed at the fire extinguisher. “Willow, do you really sleep with a fucking fire extinguisher next to your bed?”
She looked at it, then back at me. “Yes! After what happened at Granny’s house? Hell yeah! One can never be too prepared.”
I laughed harder. “Willow, put that damn thing down!” I was practically crying. “That little ass fire extinguisher?”
“Little?” She held it up higher. “This mothafucka got some weight on it!”
I backed away. “Don’t point that shit at me! And if the house was on fire, do you think I would be standing here this calm?”
Willow looked at me, then at the door, then back at me. “You got a point.” Then she placed it beside her nightstand.
