Caspian: The Not So Friendly Ghost

I laughed and sat beside her.
Instead of handing me a box, she snatched up her phone and started tapping the screen. A second later, mine buzzed in my hand.
“What did you just send me?”
“My Amazon Wishlist.”
I opened the link and immediately saw the total sitting at well over a thousand dollars.
I slowly lifted my eyes to her. “Willow.”
Before she could start defending herself, I held up a finger.
“And I’m not fussing about the money. I’m saying, if I buy all this shit and half of it is still riding around in the back of somebody’s Amazon truck on Halloween night, you and me are going to have a problem.”
“I already checked!” Willow rushed out. “Some of it can be here overnight, and everything else says delivery by Halloween. And it better, because if Amazon sends you one of them little your package is running late notifications on October thirty-first, customer service is going to know me by first, middle, and last name before I get off that phone. I don’t want you to spend all that money just for half the decorations to show up November 1st looking stupid. Oh, and we need to hit up a few stores tomorrow… Walmart, Hobby Lobby, Party Central, Michaels, and Target.”
I lowered my phone and just stared at her.
Willow stared back like she hadn’t just named enough stores to turn tomorrow into a full-time job.
After several seconds, I sighed. “Okay.”
Her eyebrows shot up. “Okay?”
“Yup.”
“That’s it? You’re not about to fuss, complain, or tell me Hobby Lobby and Michaels sell the same damn thing?”
“Nope.” I went back to scrolling through her Wishlist. “You said you wanted a big party, so we’re going to make it a big party. If we’re doing this, we might as well do it right.”
Willow’s face changed so quickly that I had to laugh. Her bottom lip pushed forward, and her eyes started getting suspiciously glossy.
“Willow, I know you’re not about to start crying.”
“Silence, sis.” She fanned her face with one hand. “I’m having a moment.”
“You’re having a moment because I agreed to go shopping?”
“No, I’m having a moment because my sister went upstairs acting like the Grinch of Halloween and came back down offering to finance my foolishness.” She studied me suspiciously again. “Actually, if you’re not really my sister, can you just stay through Christmas? I’ve been wanting this Birkin bag, and there are a few other things I feel like fake-Lakelyn would be very supportive of.”
I burst out laughing. “Would fake-Lakelyn remember when you were thirteen and stole twenty dollars out of Granny purse to buy those glitter jelly sandals, then hid the change in my pillowcase so she would think I did it?”
Willow’s mouth dropped open.
I folded my arms. “And when Granny asked who took it, you stood right beside me looking confused like you hadn’t committed the crime yourself.”
For a second, Willow said absolutely nothing, then she slowly nodded. “Oh, yeah. It’s you for real.”
“Exactly.”
She pointed at me. “And for the record, I was eleven.”
“Even worse.”
“Whatever. The sandals were cute.”
“And you got both of us in trouble.”
