"There's something I want to do."
"What's that?"
"When the baby is old enough, I want to teach them how to use this."
Guy nodded. "That seems sensible."
"And how to read the land. How to find their way through Sherwood. How to recognize the stars."
"All useful skills."
I glanced at him. "And how to shoot a bow."
He sighed.
"Of course."
I grinned. "You're going to have to accept that our child may take after me."
"I'm counting on it."
I blinked. "You are?"
He looked at my stomach. "I hope our child has your courage."
My chest tightened.
"And your stubbornness," he added.
"That's less flattering."
"Your kindness."
I smiled.
"And your complete inability to follow an instruction when you believe there's a better way."
I laughed. "That sounds more accurate."
He turned toward me. "I hope they have your heart, Robin."
I looked at him for a long moment.
Then I leaned forward and kissed him. Through our bond, I felt the same quiet happiness that had been there all afternoon. I rested my head against his shoulder.
"You're going to be a wonderful father."
He was silent for a moment.
"I hope so."
"You will."
"How can you be so certain?"
I smiled.
"Because you've spent the past year taking care of everyone on this estate while pretending you're only interested in the accounts." He laughed softly. "And because you were ready to have the courtyard steps dried the moment you found out I was pregnant."
