BROOKE

THREE WEEKS LATER…

“Are you sure this is what you want?” Granger asks for what must be the hundredth time.

“Yes.” I step into him, wrap my arms around his neck. “You can keep asking, but my answer will always be the same.”

“I want you to have what you want.”

“I know. And what I want is to be your wife. Now. Today.”

“We could wait—”

“Nope.” Pressing my lips to his in a quick kiss, I pull from his arms and step away. “I’m going to the gazebo. Meet me there. Or don’t. But I’ll be there.”

I don’t give him time to argue again before I leave the house and walk to where Riley is waiting for me in the driveway. We’ve gone over and over this for three weeks. I know he means well, but sometimes he forgets to listen to what I’m saying, instead getting stuck on what he thinks I should want.

“All good?” Riley smiles at me. “He still questioning the wedding?”

“Yes.” I close the truck door and fasten my seatbelt. “I love him, but he can be a little stubborn when he thinks he knows what’s best for me.”

Riley’s laughter mixes with the rev of the engine as she makes a u-turn and heads down the driveway. “Felix is the same. Although he’s getting better.”

“He okay to bring Granger into town?” It’s not that long ago that Felix didn’t leave his house, never mind drive into town, and then there’s the whole getting shot thing.

“Yep. Although I think Granger is actually doing the driving.” She pats the steering wheel with a grin. “We’ve got his truck.”

“Oh shit. I didn’t think of that.”

“It’s fine. I dropped Felix off when I came to get you.”

“I didn’t see him.”

“No. He went out to the shed. He wants to check on something.”

“Does he not trust us to run things right?”

“No. Nothing like that. I think he’s working on a project.”

Her words have a memory popping into my head. Granger asking me not to let Riley into the mill shed until further notice. I have no idea what they’re hiding back there, but I’m sure it’s nothing bad. Changing the subject I ask, “How are you feeling? Still nauseous?”

“A little. Only first thing in the morning, and Felix did some research and found out that dry crackers before you get up help. We now have a lifetime’s supply of dry crackers.” She smiles. “But I’m not complaining, they work.”

“I’ll have to remember that,” I murmur.

“You what?” Her gaze bounces between me and the road. “Are you pregnant too?”

“No. No.” A smile curls my lips. “We’re not taking precautions, so maybe soon.”

“It would be so good to have babies together.”

“It would.” I love the idea of our kids growing up with Felix and Riley’s. Having the run of the forest between our houses. “We’ll have to make sure the path is safe.”

“Oh, don’t worry about that. Felix already has that on his plan.”

“I’m sure Granger has too.”

“Probably.” Her eyes dart to me before she looks forward again. “So…”
