“I’ll have to check the security cameras and do a full inventory of the store to know for sure.”

“So what could that mean?” Sloane asks both me and the wolves. “She and the demon were both looking for something in here, or was she just after the demon?”

“I’d say the latter, which makes me wonder why the demon was here. We’ll do a full investigation, Luna. Did you notice any markings on the demon before he escaped?”

“First of all, drop the Luna shit,” Sloane says through gritted teeth. “I’m no one’s mate. Second of all, we slayed the demon.”

The men all bow their heads while I shuffle on my feet.

“What’s this doing here?” Kleo says, reaching down to grab a leather-bound book from the floor. “This is kept in my office.”

“Can I see that?” I ask.

Relics and Legends of the Demonic Realm is handwritten on the first page. “The hunter must have been after this.” I hand it to Sloane to look through.

She flicks through the pages and the hilt of a dagger catches my attention. My hand reaches out, landing on the page to stop her, and time stops.

A dark room. Iron bars. Nix, crying out. His face is streaked in blood and grime. Eyes filled with blue fire. The dagger. White light. A headstone. Cassandra Nestor. Nix.

I stumble back with a gasp.

“Sera?” Sloane grips my elbow to steady me. “Another vision?”

I nod, unable to find the words to explain what I saw. “I-I need a minute.”

Sloane rubs a hand up and down my back. “We should probably get going anyway.”

I hold a hand to my head, taking a breath as I look around the store still in shambles. “I’m sorry about your store,” I say to Kleo. “Can we help?”

“No, thank you.” She smiles. “We’ll have this cleaned up in no time.”

“Do you require an escort to see you back to your pack, Lu—ah, witches?”

“No, thanks.” Sloane frowns. “Here.” She takes the drawing he did earlier and scribbles down her number. “If you find anything else about the woman or demon, let us know.”

Kleo picks up a business card from a nearby shelf and hands it to Sloane. “And if you have any questions, we’d be happy to assist.”

Sloane stares at the card like it’s a life sentence before she nods and tucks it into the back pocket of her jeans.

Two of the men have already started cleaning the store as we head back out to the parking lot.

Sloane’s silent almost until we reach her motorcycle then she throws her hands up, and whirls around to face me. “What was all that shit with Luna, and Rowan being my mate? Like, what the fuck?”

I scratch my head. “He has been rather attentive and… touchy, don’t you think?”

Sloane’s shoulders jump to her ears. “No.” Denial. “That’s not important right now, anyway. What was in your vision?”

“I saw another name on a headstone. Cassandra Nestor.”

She sighs in relief. “Okay, this is good. Another name. That’s more concrete than a dagger and library.” She chuckles as she pulls her bike keys from her jacket and steps off the sidewalk, swinging a leg over her bike.

Swallowing down bile, I summon the courage to continue. “I saw Nix as well.”

Sloane frowns. “What was he doing?”

“Bleeding. He looked anguished.” I take a deep breath as I move closer to her. “I think I’m meant to help him.”

“Help a demon?”
