I push the thought away. Focus.
"Close your eyes."
He does. I move. Slowly. Quietly.
Most people rely on sound without realizing it. Footsteps. Breathing. Clothing movement. The shift of weight.
A trained person can minimize those things. A person with heightened senses…
Should be able to do more.
I circle left. Sayer's head turns. Not toward me. Toward the direction I am about to move.
Interesting.
I stop.
"What did you feel?"
He opens his eyes.
"I’m not sure."
"Try."
He looks frustrated.
"Like..."
He pauses.
"Like I knew where you were going."
I nod.
"Again."
This time I move faster. Change direction halfway. Stop. Shift. Sayer turns before I reach the position.
Carys steps onto the porch.
"What exactly are you testing?"
I glance back.
"His awareness."
"You mean his wolf."
Sayer looks between us. I realize something. Carys has accepted more in 24 hours than most people would in a lifetime. But accepting something and understanding it are different things.
I turn toward her.
"Yes."
She steps closer.
"Explain."
