I chuckle, lift her off the counter, and kiss her forehead as her feet touch the ground.

“Do what you need.”

“Don’t let her get handsy though.” She narrows her eyes and moves around the counter.

“I’ll do my best,” I smirk, and wait until she disappears in the bedroom before walking to the door.

As I greet Gwen, she smiles brightly, looks me up and down, and breezes by me.

“Morning, Gwen.” I secure the house and step toward the kitchen. I freeze as she twirls around, facing me.

She studies my face and crosses her arms. Humming, she circles me. When she's in front of me again, she nods.

“Did Savy make you breakfast?” she asks, lifting a brow.

“No, I did.”

“Are you going to clean up?”

“Yes,” I smirk.

“Uh-huh.” She tilts her head. “Are you afraid of this Griffon guy?”

“He should be scared of me,” I grumble.

“Are you going to protect my granddaughter?”

“With everything I am and can do.”

“You’ll do,” she says, and grins. “Do you have any food left?”

“I do. Take a seat, I’ll get you some.”

“If you're going to clean the kitchen, I’ll keep you company.”

“Alright.” I allow her to go first and move around the counter. “Do you want eggs? I can make more.”

“No worries. I’ll take what you have.” She leans against the other side of the counter and watches me. “You cooked bacon without a shirt?”

“I didn’t burn myself,” I say, and get a plate.

“Good, that would be a shame.” She touches her tongue to the corner of her mouth. “I should stop. Savy looks sweet, but she has a sassy side.”

“She knows you won’t make a move,” I assure her, and serve her.

“I suppose I won’t,” she sighs.

“How are Betty and Travis? Still tied up?” I begin clearing the mess I made.

“Yep.” She chuckles. “Savy must have put a whammy on them. They're sleeping like babies. I took the opportunity to slip out after spelling the house.”

“Do you think they're a threat?” I open the dishwasher and turn on the water in the sink.

“Magically, no. Making things annoying and difficult, yes.” She crunches on the bacon.

“And you have no idea who Griffon is?” I stare at her, and there is a beat of silence.

“No.” She looks at her food.
