“You knew—”
“That was before,” he said, cutting me off. “I guess I just thought…”
He thought I was going to pick him.
“Trevor,” I whispered.
“No, this is a me thing,” he said, coughing softly. “You’ve never been anything but honest about this. You didn’t mislead me or lie to me.”
Did he really want me to pick him? This whole time I’d thought we were just messing around. Having fun. Why would he want me to stay with him? Especially now. Now that he knew what he knew about me. About my past.
“You need to sleep,” he said, stretching out next to me again. “Do you want me to get you another pain pill?”
“No, I’m okay,” I said.
“Can I have one?”
I chuckled as I curled up against him. “Help yourself.”
“Andy.”
“Yeah?”
Silence stretched between us and it felt as if my heart had stuttered to a complete stop in my chest. Part of me was convinced he was about to end things between us. And another part actually believed he was going to tell me he loved me.
“Get some sleep,” he whispered before pressing a soft kiss to my head.
Or maybe I was just a crazy person.
Chapter Twenty-Nine
~Trevor~
I’d come so close to saying something to Andy that I’d never be able to take back. But I couldn’t do it. I couldn’t manipulate him into giving up his dream because I’d broken the rules.
We’d agreed from the beginning that it was a temporary situation. And I’d meant it when I said it. But how was I the only one that felt like everything had changed since then?
I’d skipped the next couple days of classes with Andy, using the time to write my Lit paper while he wandered around in a drug haze from his pain killers. His bruises were fading, his eye had reopened, and some of his sutures had started to dissolve.
“My parents are going to have a fit,” he complained as he studied his face in the mirror. “I wonder if Caitlyn could talk them out of coming tomorrow.”
“Probably not,” she called from the living room. “But they might not even notice if they don’t see you.”
“Rude,” I muttered.
“Meh, she’s not wrong,” he said, shrugging lightly. “Hey, how long are you going to hang around here?”
“Rude,” I repeated, grinning at him. “But considering I live with Mark, I was actually thinking about just moving in with you guys.”
“I actually forgot that,” he admitted. “You haven’t been back to your apartment?”
“I went back when I knew Mark would be gone so I could grab some clothes,” I said, chuckling softly. “Those pills really do a number on you.”
“Yeah, I fucking hate them,” he said. “But I haven’t taken one yet this morning and I feel okay, so hopefully I can get through a whole day without them.”
“I don’t know,” Caitlyn said. “I think you’re pretty fun when you’re high.”
“Don’t you have class?”
