“And you sitting there drinking?”
I looked at him.
“What you want me to do, Ty?”
“Something!”
“Like?”
“Beat that nigga fucking brains in for starters.”
“And then?”
Tyler stared at me.
I leaned back in my chair.
“Then what?”
“Lev—”
“I beat Xay half to death tonight. Then what?”
He didn’t answer.
“Do I get seven years back?”
Silence.
“Do Henry turn back into the little-ass boy he was when I left?”
Tyler’s jaw tightened.
“Do my mother magically stop getting high while I’m locked behind a fucking wall?”
Nothing.
“Do I get to come back and open Freckles with you instead of hearing about my own fucking club through a prison phone?”
That one got him.
Because Tyler knew.
He’d been there.
He was the one who took the money we already had and finished what we’d planned.
The one who made sure my half stayed my half.
The one who took my calls.
Handled my shit.
Visited me.
Never once made me feel like seven years meant I wasn’t coming home to something.
Meanwhile my own blood had been the reason I was there.
