I hated that fucking okay.
“What?”
“Nothing.”
“Nah. What?”
“You clearly don’t wanna tell me, so don’t.”
She turned back toward the mirror and picked her lip gloss up.
I stood there watching her.
“Why you getting an attitude?”
“I’m not.”
“You are.”
“I’m getting ready for work, Xavier.”
She put the lip gloss on like I wasn’t standing there with half my fucking face throbbing.
Then she capped it.
“There’s food in the refrigerator. Serenity ate about an hour ago. Michael needs a bath. Zion has homework he claims he doesn’t have, so check his folder because he’s lying.”
“Sam.”
She grabbed her work bag.
“What?”
I almost told her.
Almost.
But how the fuck was I supposed to explain Levin beating my ass without explaining why?
Because once I opened that door, there was too much shit sitting behind it.
So I shook my head.
“Nothing.”
She walked past me.
Then stopped.
For a second, I thought she was about to ask again.
Instead she looked at my face.
“You might wanna put some ice on that.”
I sucked my teeth.
“Thanks.”
