I laughed.
This was normal for us.
That’s what made shit fucked up.
Me, Samantha and Avery had done shit like this our whole lives.
And now Samantha was sitting in my living room folding clothes for a baby her husband put inside me.
While her sister sat three feet away.
And I couldn’t stop watching Avery.
I had tried.
Since Destiny left Sunday, I had told myself maybe I was reaching.
Maybe Avery really had just been looking at me and Xay because we looked suspicious talking in that hallway.
Maybe Xay’s weird-ass response when I asked if he was fucking her didn’t mean anything.
Maybe.
But I didn’t believe in that many fucking maybes.
Avery folded a little sleeper and put it into the pile.
I watched her.
She looked up.
Our eyes met.
Neither one of us looked away immediately.
Interesting.
“What?” she asked.
“Nothing.”
“You staring.”
“I’m looking.”
“At me.”
“You sitting in front of me.”
She narrowed her eyes.
I smiled.
Samantha looked between us.
“What the fuck is wrong with y’all?”
“Nothing,” I said.
