“No.”
“Mom—”
“Boy.”
He grabbed the plates.
“Thank you.”
“You’re welcome,” he mumbled.
“See? We know manners.”
He disappeared again.
I was putting Michael’s pancake on his little blue plate when the doorbell buzzed.
I froze.
Looked toward the hallway.
Then at the clock on the microwave.
10:47.
Who the fuck?
The buzzer went again.
I sighed.
“Come the fuck on.”
Serenity was still attached to me.
Breakfast wasn’t finished.
My kitchen looked like IHOP got into a fight.
Xavier’s ass was still upstairs sleep like he didn’t have four children.
And somebody was at my damn door.
I adjusted my shirt around Serenity as much as I could and walked from the kitchen into the hallway.
Our apartment was on the second floor, so whoever came over had to ring downstairs first. I pressed the talk button on the little intercom by the wall.
“Who is it?”
“It’s me. Let me in.”
I paused.
Levin.
I pressed the buzzer.
The lock downstairs clicked.
