Avery laughed.
“Oh, yes the fuck she does.”
“No! What the fuck telling Sam gonna do besides blow everybody’s shit up?”
Heather stared at me in disbelief.
“Her husband has two children with her sister and cousin!”
“And?”
“STOP SAYING AND!”
Both babies started crying.
Heather bounced Collin while trying to soothe Carter.
I lowered my voice.
“Look. Sam don’t need to know right now.”
Avery stared at me.
“When does she need to know, Xay?”
“I don’t fucking know.”
“When Carter graduates?”
“Man—”
“When Collin gets married?”
“Avery.”
“When your seventh baby gets here?”
I looked at her stomach.
“Don’t fucking do that.”
“Oh, NOW shit ain’t funny.”
“I never said it was funny.”
Heather handed Carter back to Avery.
Then she looked at me.
“You got until tomorrow.”
My stomach tightened.
“For what?”
“To tell Sam.”
I laughed.
