I didn’t say that shit though.
“Nothing.”
She narrowed her eyes.
“Everybody got fucking secrets lately.”
That landed harder than she knew.
Because she still didn’t know mine.
Didn’t know why I really started coming around.
Didn’t know what Xay had done seven years ago.
Didn’t know that the first time I looked at my little brother’s wife and decided I wanted to see how far I could push her, it had nothing to do with some unexpected attraction.
That came later.
The beginning?
That shit was revenge.
And standing there looking at her now, I knew eventually I was gonna have to tell her.
Just wasn’t doing that shit tonight.
Sam finished her wine and set the glass down.
“Come here.”
I raised an eyebrow.
“What?”
“You heard me.”
I walked over.
She opened the front of her robe.
I looked down.
Then back at her.
She wrapped her arms around my neck.
“I need one fucking night where I don’t gotta be somebody’s mother, somebody’s daughter, somebody’s betrayed wife, somebody’s sister.”
Her smile disappeared.
“I just wanna be Sam.”
That did something to me.
I put my hands around her waist.
“Then be Sam.”
