Then got up.
Nesha shifted Serenity higher against her chest.
“Chance, Michael, toys. Let’s go.”
Chance grabbed something off the floor.
Michael followed him.
Amari picked up her plate.
“You can leave that, baby.”
“Okay.”
Nesha started herding everybody toward the stairs.
She passed me and whispered, “Don’t kill nobody.”
“Go.”
She disappeared upstairs with the kids.
I waited until I heard the bedroom door close before looking back at Xay.
He was staring at me like I had personally ruined his fucking life.
