K.I.N.: Karma Is Near

Page 509

by E. Wolff

I had spent damn near ten years with one Lawless brother lying in my face just to turn around and start falling for the other one while he was keeping some shit from me too.

Both these niggas had looked at me and saw something they could use against the other one.

Xay saw me as the wife who would always be there.

Levin initially saw me as the wife he could take away.

And somewhere in the middle of all their brother bullshit, was me.

I took another sip of my wine.

The house was finally quiet.

All four kids were asleep.

I had checked on everybody twice.

Nesha had offered to stay after everything with Levin, but I told her to go home.

I needed quiet.

I needed to think.

I was on my couch in an oversized T-shirt, bonnet on, feet tucked underneath me, halfway through my second glass of wine when somebody started banging on the downstairs door.

Not knocking.

Banging.

I froze.

Then my phone lit up on the coffee table.

Xay.

Of fucking course.

I declined it.

The banging came again.

“Sam!”

I closed my eyes.

Jesus Christ.

“Sam, open the fucking door!”

I got up and somehow now he was upstairs at our door.

BANGING.

“Keep your fucking voice down!”

“Then open the door!”

I went to the door but didn’t unlock it.
