The basement was locked during the day.
Always.
Even employees who worked upstairs didn’t automatically have access. There was a keypad at the door at the bottom of the first set of stairs and another camera directly overhead.
I entered the code.
The lock clicked.
Downstairs didn’t look like the main club.
That was intentional.
No poles.
No neon.
No stages.
Dark wood tables. Leather chairs. Card tables spaced far enough apart that different games didn’t interfere with each other. Cameras in every corner. A private bar along the far wall. Two rooms farther in that stayed locked unless they were being used.
The room looked innocent when nobody was in it.
Most dangerous rooms did.
Xay dropped into one of the leather chairs.
“So what we doing?”
“You’re not doing shit.”
“Then why I’m here?”
I looked at him.
“Because after this, you coming with me.”
“Where?”
“Why you ask so many fucking questions?”
“Because you keep kidnapping me.”
“You’re thirty-four.”
“Still kidnapping.”
Tyler came down behind us.
He shut the door.
Locked it.
That changed the air.
I looked at him.
He wasn’t smiling anymore.
