“How’s that for contentious?”

Detective Jones wrote something down.

“He was involved romantically with both?”

“If that’s what you wanna call it.”

“For how long?”

“What the fuck does this have to do with him being dead?”

“We’re trying to understand what was happening in your husband’s life recently.”

I wiped my face.

“A lot.”

“How much is a lot?”

I stared at them.

Where the fuck would I even start?

“He had a baby with my sister.”

Jones’s pen stopped.

“Another with my cousin.”

Clean’s eyebrows lifted slightly.

“My sister is pregnant by him again.”

Silence.

“And his brother recently found out Xay had something to do with him going to prison seven years ago.”

Now they were both really listening.

“Which brother?”

“Levin Lawless.”

“Mr. Lawless served time for?”

“I don’t know every detail. Armed robbery. Possession. Something like that.”

“And your husband provided information against him?”

“That’s what Xay told me.”

“When?”

“A few weeks ago.”

“Did Levin know?”

“Yes.”
