“According to a witness, your brother was extremely upset after leaving your residence.”
“I’m sure he was.”
“He went to a friend’s home and continued drinking.”
Frozo.
Of course they’d talked to him.
“He was reportedly angry about you and Mrs. Lawless.”
I stared at Jones.
“You trying to ask me something, ask me.”
He leaned forward.
“Did you kill your brother?”
I laughed.
Straight in this nigga face.
“No.”
“Did you know he would be near Frelinghuysen Avenue the night he died?”
“No.”
Jones watched me.
I leaned forward.
“Now let me ask you something.”
He didn’t respond.
“You got two detectives sitting here asking me whether I killed my brother because I fucked his wife and found out he snitched on me.”
I nodded toward the folder.
“But you just told me this nigga owed tens of thousands of dollars to an illegal gambling operation.”
“We’re investigating all possibilities.”
“Then investigate.”
“We are.”
I stood.
Detective Clean looked at me.
“We’re not finished.”
“My lawyer told me I could leave whenever I wanted.”
That quieted the room.
