“You paying him to figure shit out, ain’t you?”
I looked down at the folder.
Fair enough.
I opened it.
First page.
Names.
Dates.
Case number.
Shit I’d seen a thousand times.
I turned it.
Another report.
Another.
Then I saw something highlighted halfway down one page.
CONFIDENTIAL SOURCE.
The source had provided information prior to the search.
Information regarding movement.
Location.
Timing.
My jaw tightened.
There it was again.
The same shit that had bothered me for seven fucking years.
How did they know?
“Mills said there’s another report.”
“Where?”
“He doesn’t have it yet.”
I leaned back.
“What report?”
“The one identifying how the source would’ve had access to the information.”
Silence.
Even Xay finally looked up from his phone.
