Swallowing the tangled knot of emotions he wasn’t sure how to feel, he took a step to exit the room, feeling like a cowardly asshole.
“Wait,” she called behind him.
Against his better judgment, he turned, meeting her eyes over his shoulder.
“I have something for you,” she said as she crawled out of the bed wearing not a stitch of clothing.
Standing perfectly still, Kid held his breath as she swished her hips past him and out of the room. His gaze fixated on her heart-shaped behind as he followed her.
Carrie rounded the counter separating her kitchen from the living space. He took advantage of the barrier between them. His dick was already diverting the blood flow to the wrong place. He needed the space if he hoped to keep his head. Otherwise, he’d spread her out on the table and devour her cunt until his cock was ready to go again.
From atop the electric stove, she grabbed the small plastic container. “I made these for you,” she said as she extended it toward him wearing a 100-watt smile.
The terrified woman cowering in oversized sweats was long gone. Before him stood a naked, confident Carrie, and he’d never craved anything more in his life.
When he didn’t move or respond, her eyebrows rose as she glanced at the container and back to him. “Brownies.”
“What?” He furrowed his brow in confusion.
“I baked them for you,” she said and placed them on the counter.
Her tongue slid across her bottom lip, and he fought the urge to taste her again.
“You said you liked them when I made them a while back for Kelsey. So, I figured…”
He snatched them, and her words halted. “Thanks.”
He had to depart now before he made the biggest mistake of her life. A woman as beautiful as Carrie who baked… he did not deserve that. Kid was an asshole.
As though to prove that to her and himself, he turned away from her, grabbed his duffel, set his key on the counter, and left the apartment for the last time.

Kid
Fudgy, chewy brownies didn’t go well with tequila shots, but Kid didn’t care. He didn’t appreciate his head and his heart right now. They were warring and confusing him. Too many feelings jumbled and tangled within him. He had no use for any of that.
“So she’s going to be a what?” Kelsey asked as she and Kevlar entered the large main room of the clubhouse where Kid sat at the bar.
“House mouse,” Kevlar said.
Kid turned as he stuffed the last square of delicious baked good into his face hole.
The blond woman peered at his brother in confusion.
“Basically, she’ll keep the place clean for us, maybe cook, laundry, shit like that.”
Who was Kevlar talking about? They hadn’t discussed inviting a house mouse to stay with them at church. Sure, having someone hanging around to pick up after them wasn’t a bad idea, nor was it a major decision, but who that person was, could be. Taking a shot, he watched the pair go deeper into the room and get closer to him, appearing to be unaware of his presence.
“So, she’s like your maid?” Kelsey asked as she straightened a neon beer sign hanging on the wall. “Do you pay for that?”
“Ehh.” Kevlar scrubbed the back of his neck, peering around as though for assistance. His gaze landed on Kid.
“A house mouse gets a room in exchange for taking care of the brothers,” Kid declared loud enough for Kelsey to hear him from across the room before he swallowed another shot of tequila to wash down his brownie.
Whirling around, Kevlar’s old lady squeaked. Her hand rested over her ample cleavage. “Jesus Christ. I didn’t know you were here.”
Kid shrugged as he filled his glass with more booze.
