Corrado. That vile motherfucker.
I understand now. Why so many of the medical records from that time are missing. And why my wife has never mentioned a serious medical condition that would stop her from having children.
It’s him. Her father. He did this.
Had I not known how despicable Corrado is, the truth might not be so clear to me.
I might have sat here in confusion, trying to figure it out.
After all, why would I question it? I went to the cemetery just the other day and saw Allegra’s name on the headstone.
We’ve all been told that it was Allegra who died when the twins were taken.
But it wasn’t.
It was Gabrielle, the twin who was most valuable to Corrado, because of Danillo. Danillo has always been obsessed with Gabrielle.

I have Allegra.
I sit there in a stupor, my mind trying to process this fresh hell.
It’s the ringing of my phone that pulls me back. But my mind is still miles away when I retrieve my phone from my pocket and answer the call.
“Yes.”
“Boss, it’s Roman.”
“What is it?”
“Something’s happened.” From the tone of his voice, I can tell it’s something bad.
“What is it?”
“It’s your wife, sir. She’s missing.”

Iburst through the doors of the charity office like a demon from hell. The double doors crash open, slamming into the wall on either side with a loud crack.
Inside the office stand Aleksandr, Anushka, Kieran, and my guards, who go completely pale when they see me storming in.
Aleksandr was near the office, so he arrived ahead of me. Kieran was with him. They were working on our investigation.
We all think Corrado took Gabrielle.
Gabrielle.
No, not Gabrielle.
Allegra.
At the moment, I’m the only person amongst the group who knows the truth. A truth that doesn’t matter right now.
