“I can get that.”
He shrugs. “I know, but this frees you up to pour us fresh cups of coffee and take them to the meeting.”
“True.” I laugh. “You’re always planning ahead.”
“Always.”
His firm emphasis, coupled with a pointed glance, has me frowning. What the heck is he up to?
“I need the caffeine desperately,” he adds. “Kind of a sleepless weekend.”
Because Noah was too busy playing with Misty’s pom-poms…among other things?
Pain pierces my gut. I look away, pretending to glance around to make sure I have everything. Once I’m positive I have my act together and my expression under control, I hustle away from my desk. Noah falls into step beside me.
“Same,” I murmur. “But I got the bathroom tile finished. Now I just have to seal the grout, but the girls can help me. They came home on Sunday night. Over the weekend, Tim took them miniature golfing. Cassie loved it; Emma hated it. Typical.”
“Emma doesn’t like many activities that don’t involve a book.”
“Yep. And Cass only likes playing if she can get sweaty. They’re so different.”
“They’re great girls, and I know you’re proud.”
“I am.”
We reach the coffee bar, and I pour us each a tall cup into waiting Styrofoam.
“Black, right?” I turn to Noah.
He jerks his gaze up to my face quickly, then looks away with a nod. Was he staring at my breasts? No. Not possible. But then…what was he looking at?
Brushing off the question and scolding myself for this crazy infatuation, I add some artificial sweetener and creamer to my coffee and head down the hall. Noah follows.
“So…what else did you do this weekend?” he asks. “Did Mr. Mysterious show up and make good on his promise?”
Even though I feel his curious gaze glued to my profile, I’m not answering. I’m not telling Noah that a total stranger snuck into my house and I waited for him in red lace. I refuse to admit aloud that he cuffed me to my bed and mastered my body in stunning ways I can’t begin to describe. I won’t say a word about the fact he used his tongue on every part of my body. Or about his mind-melting kisses. Forget blabbing about the way he’d teased my clit until I exploded. I’m not going to say a peep about his huge erection filling every bit of my pussy or confess he’d known the perfect stroke for maximum friction and killer orgasms. I’ll never divulge how totally I gave myself and how hard I cried afterward. Nope. Not a word. No way, no how.
“I’m guessing from the blush on your face the answer is yes.” His grin widens to something mischievous. “And I’ll go out on a limb and guess that you liked it.”
This is when I hate being fair skinned. Hard to keep secrets when a blush I can’t control tells the whole story.
“Who do I need to watch out for during this meeting? Who’s going to push back most?” Maybe Noah will take the old bait and switch. I hope.
Noah just laughs. “You enjoyed it, didn’t you? Whatever he did, that did the trick. You look surprisingly…relaxed.”
I bite my tongue. Honestly, I’d rather eat it than admit to the man I have a major crush on that I surrendered my body to a total stranger…while thinking of him.
But my confirmation or denial won’t change facts. Noah knows, at the minimum, that I gave in and that I liked it. Clearly, the thought of another man in my bed doesn’t bother him in the least.
That speaks volumes about how much he doesn’t think about me sexually. And doesn’t want me. And why should he give me a second thought when he has Misty, who can no doubt cheer at the top of her lungs while doing the splits on his cock?
My gut clenches. My mood drops lower than my knees.
“Not talking, huh?”
His cat-ate-the-canary grin crawls on my last nerve. Hell, could he get any more obvious about the fact he’s glad someone screwed me? Clearly, he isn’t wishing he’d been the one doing the screwing.
“Noah, I didn’t ask you about your weekend with Misty. Why are you asking me about mine with this guy?”
