“Then we have one to get her out,” I reply.
Zane crosses his arms. “The pole didn’t do any major damage. It tore through muscle but missed anything major.”
Thank You, God.
“Good. Give me some pain meds, and let’s go.”
“You did nearly bleed out when you removed it in the car.”
“They were taking her. I had to try.”
“I’m not questioning why you did it. Any one of us would have done the same,” Zane says. “But I am telling you because you might not be at one hundred percent for this fight we’re about to run into.”
“Then I guess it makes the fight almost fair, doesn’t it?”
Weston barks out a laugh, then shakes his head. “I told you, Cap. Tank’s fifty percent is most people’s hundred and ten. We’ve got this.”
“I didn’t doubt it, I just wanted to state the risks.”
“Wait, you guys can’t go in with me.” I look at each of them. “You have families to think about.”
“You are family,” Weston replies. “And you have stood beside each and every one of us when the women we love were threatened.”
“If you think for a second we’re letting you go in alone, you’ve lost your mind.”
“Agreed,” Presley says as he pushes the door open. Behind him are three men, two of whom I recognize as Mason and Brent, the men I met back at his house after Dahlia was attacked. The third, I don’t recognize, but he has similar features to Brent. Brothers, perhaps? “You know Mason and Brent. This is Brent’s brother, Andrew.” Presley gestures toward them.
“This is risky,” I say. “We have no proof he’s done anything wrong—yet.”
“Then let’s go get some. I’d say finding your girl being held against her will is probably cause enough,” Mason says. “Of course, it’s not exactly my jurisdiction, but I have a friend in Charleston, and it just so happens to be his.”
I stare at each member of Presley’s team, so willing to stand beside him because of me, and it reminds me of my own team.
Of Zane, who holds it all together.
Weston, who doesn’t hesitate before diving headfirst into danger.
Sawyer, who won’t stop until he has the answers.
Garrison, who keeps us all grounded but will also level any obstacle in the way.
I’m a lucky man, that’s for sure.
God, please be with us. Let these men walk away from this. I know You have her, Lord. Guide me to her. Grant me strength enough to save her.
I take a deep, steadying breath that does nothing to calm the storm raging within me. If I lose her, then I have no doubt that I will lose me, too.
“We’re going to get her back, Tank,” Zane tells me. “Sawyer is monitoring the estate, and Garrison is already boots on the ground finding us weak points.”
I nod. “I can’t lose her, Zane. I know it hasn’t been long, but—” I stop abruptly, before I nearly muttered three words I never thought I’d say, and certainly not this soon.
“I know,” he says. “Let’s go get your girl.”
Chapter 32
Dahlia
“Pssst, girl!”
