“Not unless we’re at the club or around them.”
The tiniest gasp is stolen. “You uh…you want me there?” Emaline flicks away an invisible strand away from her nose. “You want me to…like…meet them?”
“Someday,” airily escapes without reluctance, without deeper contemplation.
Huh.
Not sure I’ve ever wanted to introduce the boys to anyone before.
Fuck, come to think of it...there aren’t many people in my life that aren’t already tied to the club.
Maybe that’s another reason why I like Emaline.
She’s separate.
Allows some part of me to be separate too.
Is it wrong to want that?
To have it?
“Let’s see what else is out here,” I casually segue while shifting the vision tool back into my possession.
Her body scooting closer to mine is attached to an innocent suggestion, “Perhaps a pelican?”
She listens.
I like that too.
It ain’t like I have a shit ton to say, but when I do, it’s good to know I’m heard.
Heard and not mocked.
Straightening my back is followed by pressing the black binocs to my eyes to search for the requested target. Due to the quality of the tool and my familiarness with Lake Gernow, finding my favorite bird occurs in under a minute.
“There,” I announce and lean over for an easier exchange. “View should be all lined up.”
Almost immediately after they’re in position on her face, Emaline sighs, “Wow…” An innocent wiggle is executed. “They look so close! Like we could just reach out and touch them!”
My grinning mindlessly continues. “They’re the best on the market.”
“You spared no expense.”
“They were actually a gift from my boy, Tex.”
“Bikers get each other gifts?”
“Fam gets each other gifts.”
“That explains why I never receive anything,” barely has time to reach my ears before she moves on. “Eeeek!!! He’s scooping something up!” Chuckles begin to grow when she squawks. “It’s huge!”
Impishly, I grunt, “Jealous.”
Her attention swiftly cuts over to me.
“Again.”
The eyeroll she delivers is playful and accompanied by a smile that’s somehow even more gorgeous than the sunset in our presence.
