No. Thank God.
I tap my fingers on my chin. It could be anything, and I don’t know the woman well enough to have any idea. How am I going to get access to her laptop if I can’t figure out her password?
Micah might have a way.
“Do you have any idea what time it is?” he grumbles when he picks up. “I’m beginning to regret helping you out.”
“I don’t know who else to ask,” I admit.
“Fine. Next time just make sure you don’t call in the dead of night.” He breathes heavily.
“Everything okay?” a woman asks in the background.
“Yes, my Queen,” he says softly as there’s the rustle of movement.
A man’s sleep-roughened voice comes next, “Let us know if you need us.”
A door closes. Micah’s voice gets louder. “What do you need?”
“Her laptop is password protected.”
“And you think I can solve that for you?” He sounds wry.
“Yes. No. I don’t know.” I close the lid and sit back. Clasping my hands behind my neck, I squeeze. My muscles have tightened and the tension in them is giving me a headache.
“I could actually,” he says.
There’s the gush of a tap followed by a click, a crackle, and the slight gurgling of a coffee machine.
“The problem is... that would reset the password and any ground you make would be lost to the fact she knows you’re up to something. So you want to be damn sure you don’t have another way to find what you’re looking for before we go that route. I’m still working on trying to find more information on where the money went after it left your account. Give me time, huh?”
“I can’t sit around doing nothing.” I need to get back to my real life. The one where I am trying to earn another chance with Kelsey. Instead of destroying us even more.
“So, don’t,” he says. “Use the time to learn about your enemy. And maybe you’ll find out what that password is without my help. She might even volunteer the information you need. Pay attention. Every detail could be the one you’re looking for.”
“What is it you do, exactly?” Because it sounds suspiciously like he has experience dealing with people like Sonatina. And he did help us locate West when he was taken. It took him six months... I can’t stand the idea of another six months lost between Kelsey and me.
“I’m just a tech guy.” He chuckles. “Now, is there anything else I can help with tonight? Because thanks to you, I am wide-the-hell-awake. At least until this coffee kicks in.”
“Yeah.”
“What is it?”
I need to keep her safe. Whatever it takes. “Rogue. He kept a GPS tracker on Ivy’s phone.”
“And...?” Micah waits.
I’m about to sound unhinged, but that tiny device had saved my sister-in-law’s life. “I want one on Kelsey. No, I want one everywhere. Her phone. Her clothes. Purses. Shoes. Jewelry.”
“Slow your roll West two-point-oh.” He chuckles. “Let’s take a second to be logical about this. Shoes—except for maybe boots—fall off during a struggle. Purses can be tossed. Phones are usually the first thing to go.”
“Clothes and jewelry then.” He won’t change my mind. This needs to happen. “Anything else we can use to track her. I want her lit up like a damn Christmas tree.”
“There is one option that would make the rest obsolete,” he says slowly, like he doesn’t actually want to mention it. “But you’d have to get her to agree. And it leaves her open to unnecessary injury if she is taken.”
She’d be open to injury, assault and God knows what else if Marco got his hands on her anyway. “What is it?”
“A chip inserted under her skin,” Micah says.
