Ballad of Rioting Hearts

She grips me so tightly when she comes. She makes me feel too big for my body. Like my flesh and bones can’t possibly hold everything she means to me inside. My cock gets harder. My balls tighten. I kiss her while we find this climax together.

We get out of the bath, dry off, and move to the bedroom. Her clothes and mine have been left on the bed.

I pull on my jeans. L.A. Riot has a show tonight. The others will head over to the venue soon, but I won’t leave her side until just before go time. I pick up my T-shirt. “Maybe tonight you could come with me.”

She pauses with one leg in the air as she puts on new panties she’s grabbed from the closet. Lowers her foot slowly back to the floor and shimmies them up her legs. “You want me to come to the concert?”

I hate that her immediate reaction is fear. Yeah, she tries to hide it. Tells us all she’s not shaken, but we all know she’s just waiting for him to come after her again.

And I’m pretty sure that’s what he wants. That creep wants her to fear him... wants her anticipating his next move. Like it’ll make it even sweeter when he takes her.

That won’t happen. We’re waiting for him to show up... anticipating what we’ll do to him when he does. We’re going to make him pay for everything he’s done to her. The guys and I discussed it after we realized Marco had someone feeding him information. Someone we suspect is Sonatina.

I fucking hope it’s Sonatina. Not that I need another reason to want to destroy her. Given the opportunity, I’ll make her life a living hell like she made Kelsey’s and mine. And if it turns out she had anything to do with the loss of our child... she won’t take another fucking breath.

I drag my T-shirt over my head and stretch the cotton down my abs. “I’ll be with you the whole time.”

Keeping her against my side. Fastening her hand in mine.

She pulls on her pleated skirt. “I don’t know.”

“It’s okay that you’re scared.” I say it because it’s true. But also because telling Kelsey I think she’s scared is guaranteed to get her riled up.

And like the spitfire she is, she marches up to me as she hooks her bra. “You did not just say that.”

“It’s totally understandable.”

“Fuck you, Riot Maddox. I’m coming to the show.”

“Good.” I grab her hips and pull her tight against me. “I want to see you stage left when I announce publicly that Sonatina and I aren’t together.”

“You’re going to do that tonight?” The smile on her face becomes huge. “Are you scared?”

Fucking terrified. Pushing Sonatina into making a move against Kelsey is in direct opposition to my desire to protect her. But it allows us to control the situation. We can watch Sonatina closer. Hopefully catch her next move.

But I keep all that from Kelsey. Stick to the things she already knows. Doubling down on them like they are the reasons we should be nervous. “Sonatina had a literal bank account opened in your name with fake ID. She put money she stole from us and her father’s label into it just to have something to hold over us. She’s going to do whatever it takes to get rid of you.”

“Let her try.” She raises her chin.

“She’s going to stir up shit for the band with the label. Who knows how Carmine will react. It could get bad.”

“Are you trying to talk yourself out of it?” The light in her eyes fades.

“No.” I tighten my grasp on her. Bow my head until our foreheads touch. I’ve waited for her to be willing to give us another chance. She’s finally in my arms, looking at me like she doesn’t hate me. We’ll work out the rest. “No. That’s not going to happen.”

But we can’t underestimate what comes next. And I am not as prepared as I would like to be.

She cups my cheek and looks directly into my eyes. “I’m not going to leave because she wants me to. I’m not going anywhere unless you give me a reason to.”

Something in my chest eases. My breathing had sped up, but it slows now. “I won’t.”

A knock on the door is followed by Bronx opening it. His gaze ping pongs from how close Kelsey and I are standing, to her hand on my face, to my fingers digging into her waist. He squeezes the side of his neck as he checks over his shoulder.

I sling my arm around her neck. “What’s up?”

“We were all just wondering whether Kelsey wanted to finish watching the movie before we head off.” He ignores me, his gaze stuck to her. His mouth turns down in the corners.

“Absolutely yes.” She beams at him as she leaves my side. “Although we’re going to have to go back to the start. I don’t know about you, but I missed the whole damn thing.”
