My chest caves in. I recognize what she’s holding. It steals my breath right out of my fucking lungs. The ground caves under my feet. My wrist jars when I put out a hand to catch the wall as I lose my balance.
“There’s no way.” I shake my head. No way at all. It’s not possible. He wouldn’t. And she’s a horrible person. A liar. A manipulator. “When?”
“Four weeks ago. The night we got engaged.”
The night he didn’t come back to the hotel even though I had been hurt. And the next day he’d told me to fuck around with all my guys. Because he deserved to hurt. Because he fucking...
My eyes sting. Bile rises in my throat. “I don’t believe you.”
“Go ahead and believe what you like. It’s the truth. I’m having Riot’s baby.” She hurries down the hallway.
Covering my mouth, I run for the closest bathroom. I barely make it into a stall before I’m vomiting up everything in my stomach. This can’t be real. It can’t. But it feels real. Like my worst nightmare. I lost my baby and he’s having a baby with her.
No, I can’t jump to conclusions. She’s a liar. And she hates me. Riot said she would keep trying to get rid of me. He said we didn’t know what she would try next. Unless... he knew he’d fucked up this bad and he was trying to soften the blow.
The main door opens and closes. Timid footsteps come toward me.
“Hello?” Lennon’s soft voice calls out. She appears in the doorway. “Kelsey? What’s wrong?”
I shake my head.
“Should I... fetch someone for you?”
“Tell me she’s a liar,” I beg. “Tell me it’s not real.”
“Who?” She swallows and her expression clears. “Oh.”
“Tell me.” I grab her hand.
“She’s a liar,” she says. “It’s not her fault. You have to understand—”
“Tell me she lied about this,” I demand.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
“She’s pregnant. It’s Riot’s.”
“I... I’m so sorry,” she whispers.
“You knew.”
“I saw them together,” she says. “But I didn’t—”
I cover my face with both hands. What she’s telling me... I want to scream. I fling my hands down to my sides. “You knew and you didn’t say anything. I thought we were friends.”
“Please don’t hate me. You’re the only friend that I’ve ever had.” Her eyes fill with tears.
How dare she cry. How dare she act like she hasn’t stabbed me in the fucking back for her bitch of a boss. I push past her. “You get in bed with a fucking bitch, you turn into one yourself. Don’t ever talk to me again.”
“Kelsey,” she calls out to me as I careen out of the bathroom and back down the hallway toward Riot’s dressing room. Jasper and Rook are watching me, talking about me. Who knows how much Jasper overheard of my confrontation with Sonatina. Enough that they are preparing for my next move.
My next move might be to fucking kill Riot.
“Kelsey?” Ending the call with whichever brother he is talking to, he hurries across the small space when I burst into the room. The door thwacks against the wall. “What is it? What’s wrong?”
“You’re having a baby with that psycho bitch.” I want to scream and throw things. I want to unleash every bit of my anger in a violent maelstrom. Instead, my words are quiet, calm. Detached.
He frowns. “What?”
