“He said I had to take my shot because you never know when you might lose it.”

“I’ll have to thank Nash later.”

“Ya. We’ll get him a coffee gift card.”

I chuckle, feeling super giddy. When his hand comes to my hip, I peek up at him again. “That night changed everything for me, Daughtry.”

“Me too.”

“I never knew how caring and protective you are. I never knew how much passion is simmering under the surface of your scowl.” I reach up to soften the wrinkles between his brows. “I’m in love with you, too, you know?”

“I didn’t know.”

“Will you forgive me for not leaving a note?”

“Definitely.”

“And for accidentally blocking you?”

“Absolutely.”

“And—the worst one—for not reaching out to you?”

“One hundred percent.” His words are like a cozy blanket around me. “Now I have a question for you? Will you give us another chance?”

“Definitely.”

“Mmm…” He leans closer, his body warming me. “Will you let me kiss you?”

“Absolutely.”

“Can I take you home tonight?”

“One hundred percent.” I giggle. “After class.”

He swoops in to give me a quick kiss, and I can feel the smile in his lips. He loves me. I love him.

I never thought I’d end up with Mr. Safe, and I doubt he ever pictured himself with Miss Chaos herself. But here we are, and it’s the perfect match.

Chapter 7

Daughtry

“Did you bring me coffee?” I push myself up off her front stoop as she approaches with a huge smile on her face.

“Yes, I did. The very coffee you were supposed to have the next morning. So it’s like we’re picking up where we left off.”

“That’s very sweet of you.” I pull her into my arms, careful not to dislodge the coffees from their tray. “But you know I’m almost glad we had these five days apart.”

“That doesn’t sound very romantic, Daughtry.”

I chuckle at her scowly face and kiss her forehead. Maybe that’s how she feels about me. “Hear me out. Now I know what it’s like to be without you, and I never want to feel that way again.”

“Mmm…that actually is a bit romantic.”

“I can be sappy when I want to be.” I pull her in again, noticing how the coffees are really in the way of my plans for us. “And I have a really good reason to be sappy now.”

She wiggles her brows at me and then wriggles out of my arms. “I think it’s time I take you inside Mr. Sappy Pants.”
