Briony

We’ve only had one date!!!

Innes

Fair, though I’m sure Mum would love to meet him and have a nice long chat

Speaking of, she says she’s going to call you! My advice: don’t answer

Mum

Mum

Hello, darling. Why aren’t you answering your phone?

Briony

Sorry, not the best time for a call. I can text, though. What’s up?

Mum

I’ve been thinking some more about your date last night.

Briony

Oh?

Mum

Will you be seeing him again?

Briony

Yep, on Wednesday for coffee and a walk

Mum

Darling, I have to say I’m worried. Innes showed me some more of his fights, and they’re gruesome things to watch.

Briony

He’s different in person. Trust me

Mum

You weren’t his biggest fan when he first moved into your building. He sounded pretty awful then, and that WAS in person.

Briony

We got off to a bad start, but things have changed. You know me: I’m sensible! You don’t have to worry

Mum

It’s a mum’s job to worry. I just don’t want you getting swept up in something before you’ve had time to think it through.

Briony

That’s not what’s happening. I’m taking it slowly, I promise. We’re getting to know each other
