“You mooched.”

“I was cursed, Agatha. Allow me some dignity.”

“You stuck your nose in my pocket.”

His mouth finally curves.

“I knew what was in there.”

I stare at him.

“You listened to me.”

His smile fades into something softer.

“Every day you gifted me with stories of your life and allowed me to listen.” His eyes hold mine. “You enchanted me long before you ever knew who I was.”

His expression darkens instantly.

“Unfortunately.”

I stare at him. Then I laugh.

I actually laugh.

The sound escapes before I can stop it, and I immediately slap a hand over my mouth.

No.

Absolutely not.

We are not laughing together.

I'm angry with him.

Very angry.

I am committed to this anger.

Except...

My gaze catches on his face.
