Dora looks at the book. Then at me.
“Nothing?”
“Research.”
“On familiars.”
“No.”
She points.
I look down.
Damn it.
“Unrelated research.”
“Aggie.”
“Dora.”
Her eyes narrow. Mine do too.
We stare at each other.
“Tell me.”
“No.”
“Tell me or I'll tell everyone you’re responsible for what happened on July Fourth.”
My mouth falls open.
“You wouldn't.”
Her smile is pure evil.
Oh, no.
Not the Fourth of July incident. We agreed never to speak of that again.
“Dora.”
She leans back and folds her arms.
“I'm listening.”
“That was an accident.”
“Uh-huh.”
“The fireworks were mislabeled.”
“You turned the Castor's Corner Fourth of July display into a forty-five-minute magical reenactment of the Revolutionary War.”
“I was trying to make them sparkle.”
“George Washington appeared over Main Street and yelled at the mayor.”
