“Think about Sunday,” Coach calls.
I keep walking.
Only when the conference-room doors close behind us do I breathe again.
Dora doesn't say anything until we're halfway down the hall.
“Aggie.”
“I'm fine.”
“I didn't ask if you were fine.”
“Good. Then we're all set.”
She stops walking. I take another step before realizing I'm dragging her. I turn. Dora's face has gone serious.
“What's going on with Williams?”
“Nothing.”
“Aggie.”
“He just doesn't take a hint.”
“That's not what I just saw.”
I look away.
“It's fine.”
“Does Wulfy know?”
My head snaps toward her.
“No.”
“Why not?”
“Because there's nothing to tell.”
Even I don't believe that anymore. Dora studies me.
“He makes you uncomfortable.”
I adjust my bag.
“I can handle him.”
That's not an answer.
We both know it.
Dora reaches for my hand.
“You don't have to be polite to someone who makes you feel unsafe.”
My throat tightens.
