“Love is about sacrifice,” I said and thought about my trip to Baton Rouge. “But too much sacrifice can kill the good feelings.”

Cher studied me before asking, “Are you moving in with York?”

“Yes,” I said, shuddering at the reality. “I can’t live without him.”

“You were mad when Elle moved to Baton Rouge to be with Zodiac.”

“Yeah, because I was going to miss her. Also, Zodiac annoys me. But I understood how they were having a kid together.”

“Are you going to have a kid?”

“Eventually.”

“You should do it soon. That way, your baby will be around the same age as everyone else’s babies.”

Despite grinning at her excitement, I insisted, “I want to get settled into my new life before I have a baby. Besides, if I’m pregnant, I might feel too yucky to take care of Nova during her pregnancy and after her baby is born. I want to focus on her for now.”

“You’ll be a great mom. You’re very patient with Nova’s girls.”

“So are you.”

“I’ll have a baby after I travel the world,” Cher said and stared into the horizon. “I have my future planned out.”

“What if Tricky wants to be part of that future?”

“He’ll need to tear up the box he wants to put me inside. But his idea of a good wife is his mom, and I’m like my mom.”

“Well, maybe he’ll change his mind, or you might meet someone who doesn’t believe in boxes.”

Cher grinned. “Everyone’s falling in love. It’s so weird, right? It’s like Clint showed up with Ivy, and everyone got jealous. Now, we all want to copy him.”

“Hey,” Sabrina whined, heading toward the porch. “I was in love before you dumb-shits.”

“Yeah, but copying you is a losing proposition,” I replied immediately. “No one can be as cool as Sabrina Reed. Clint is easier to copy.”

“Aww, what a kiss ass,” Sabrina said and kissed the top of my head. “Why are you hiding outside?”

“I’m not hiding. I’m resting,” I insisted. “I’m also preparing to talk to Clint and Rock about my trip to Baton Rouge.”

Sabrina instantly said, “Don’t move there.”

“I’ll need to live there at least part-time. It’s York’s home.”

Sabrina opened her mouth to bitch. Before the words left her mouth, she deflated and shrugged.

“I can’t help it. I like the guy,” she said and sighed. “He doesn’t dare mess with me. I respect his fear. Plus, he loves you. How can I dislike someone with such great taste?”

Cher and I smiled at Sabrina’s softer tone. Our friend had fought every single club member’s new relationship. Well, she was pretty chill about Nova and Boone, but everyone quickly adored my sister-in-law. Nova hooking up with Boone felt like a way to make two great people happy.

Sabrina’s acceptance of York did make me feel better about talking to Clint and Rock. I worried they might want to force me to hide at the Sorority House. My instinct would be to demand my independence. Clint would work his magic on me, while Rock put his foot down. I didn’t need so much drama today.

When Clint and Rock arrived after lunch, I sensed they were agitated. York wanted to join me during the chat, but I waved him off. If Clint was bothered by something, he would be less likely to fess up with a Black Rainbow member present.

Returning to the back porch, I settled on the couch. The Sorority House felt overly quiet during the day with everyone at work. The Tooker kids were still in Rawlins, though they planned to return to Little Memphis after the weekend. Life was starting to get back to normal.

Clint was a casually handsome man. He didn’t possess the hardness of his father, Ford Reed. What Clint lacked in an intimidating appearance, he made up for with his sharp mind and ease with violence.

Oz would be an intimidating man, even if he didn’t ride with a motorcycle club. His buzz cut emphasized his strong features and distracted from his soft, feminine eyes.
