“I’ll lay you down on it so very carefully, then I’ll remove your clothing, piece by piece, until your beautiful body is bare for me. But I won’t torture you for too long. I’ll put my mouth on you, and I won’t stop until you’re moaning my name.”

I broke out in goosebumps, my thighs clenching at his visual description. I’d never been more turned on. Oral sex wasn’t something that Zach had done very often. He preferred me on my knees serving him. I had a feeling being with Tristan would be worlds apart from what I’d experienced before. And honestly, fuck Zach. I pushed him from my mind, refusing to give the past a single second more of my thoughts.

The present was all I needed, and Tristan was the only man I wanted to think about.

He was the one person who could make me feel this electric. Even when we were teenagers, sitting together eating junk food and watching reality TV was the most exhilarating experience.

“That sounds nice,” I said, my breathing uneven, and Tristan gave a throaty chuckle.

He leaned forward, pressing a kiss to my cheekbone. “Nice?”

“Brain’s a little fried,” I confessed. “No better adjectives are coming to mind.”

He tilted his head. “How about … stimulating?”

A small laugh escaped me. “That works.”

“But first I’m going to take you to dinner.” I was almost disappointed, though the idea of being taken to dinner by Tristan sent butterflies fluttering through me all the same.

“Tristan.”

“Yes, sexy?”

Oh, wow. I definitely liked him calling me that. “What if I don’t want dinner first?”

He let out a tortured groan. I moved towards him, placing my hand on his collarbone. “You said I could set the pace, that we’d only do what I wanted.”

“I did.”

“Well, right now, I want you to—” Before I could finish the sentence, there was a knock on the door. Tristan swore under his breath. Shrugging into his ridiculous shirt, he called out, “Yeah?”

“It’s me,” came a male voice, his brother. “Milly’s here, too. We’re heading to the disco if you want to join us?”

Tristan shot me a look of pure devastation. If his brother hadn’t knocked on the door just now, he would’ve done just about anything I asked of him. I could tell. “Just a minute. I’m getting dressed,” he replied, his tone short while his eyes never left mine.

Moving forward, I helped him with the buttons on the shirt, the air thick between us. When I glanced up, I saw he was staring at my lips. A moment of courage seized me when I whispered, “You can kiss me, if you like.”

The words had barely left my mouth when suddenly Tristan’s hands were in my hair, my back flush against the door once again as his lips descended on mine. Time slowed down, and I became aware of the hairs rising on my nape, the swiftness of my heartbeat. He didn’t even care that his brother and Milly were standing outside waiting. Instead, he captured my lips in a kiss so careful, so patient, yet so hungry that I’d remember it until my dying day.

I barely breathed as his lips gently caressed mine. I felt like a piece of precious China in his hands. Years worth of bottled-up emotion released in that moment, a gasp escaping me when his tongue slid into my mouth, slow and intentional. “Fuck,” Tristan muttered quietly, releasing my lips to call to his brother, “Go ahead without me. I’ll meet you there.”

I heard the couple leaving, saying something to each other, their voices getting farther away. Tristan dipped down to resume our kiss when he paused, his focus on my cheek.

“What’s this?”

His thumb came up to brush something from my face, and I suddenly became aware that a tear had rolled down my cheek. Dammit. I’d been determined not to cry, but one pesky tear managed to break free. I’d been so overcome by his kiss, my feelings so intense I didn’t even notice it. “You’re such a good kisser you made me cry?” I said, trying for humour. Tristan smiled softly, then he looked thoughtful, then concerned, then careful.

“Are you certain you’re ready for this?”

“I’m certain. I don’t even know where that came from. I think I just have a lot of pent-up feelings that I didn’t realise needed to come out. Nobody’s kissed me in a really long time. It’s made my hormones go a little crazy.”

Tristan’s features were so full of affection as he caressed my cheek then linked our fingers, lifting my hand to his mouth and kissing the underside of my palm. “Let’s go dance to some disco music, eh?”

I laughed then wrapped my arms around his neck, pulling him close. A gust of breath escaped him at the suddenness of my hug. “Thank you for not thinking I’m mental for crying when you kissed me.”

Tristan dragged me into him, his arms encircling my waist, embracing me for a moment before releasing me. “Like you said, I’m that good of a kisser I reduced you to tears,” he teased, and I laughed, a lightness filling my chest. It was a sensation I hadn’t felt in a long time, and I realised that being with someone should be like this, easy and fun, carefree and joyous.

“Maybe we shouldn’t arrive together,” I said as we left his office. “Not that I want to keep us a secret, but if we turn up to disco night together, the gossip will be uncontainable.”
