“Wes. You know what I mean.”

“Honestly, I don’t.”

“I’ve had a kid.”

“I know. I met him. Pretty cool little dude.” The corners of his emerald eyes pinched. “What are you talking about? Your body?”

Her face flushed. “Yeah.”

His eyebrows jumped. “Did I not make it perfectly clear how much I liked your body?”

The flush deepened. “Yeah, but—”

“There’s not a but, sweetness. I fuckin’ adore your body.” He half-laughed to himself. “Your bare shoulders with nothing but those strappy ties holding up your dresses? They constantly have me in a sweat.”

“Oh, come on.”

“Your tits, and your hips?” He slowly nodded as if he were picturing her naked last night on the counter. “All of it. I love your softness. The femininity of you. All of it. It does it for me. You do it for me.” He cleared his throat. “And if I don’t stop thinking about it, we’ll both be waking up our neighbors very soon.”

“I thought we weren’t having sex.”

“You could always sit on my face. Talk dirty to me and watch me come on your tits.”

Her eyes rounded. Her lips parted. A feverish blush ran up her neck.

“Or not,” he said. “Have a better idea?”

She couldn’t believe he’d said that out loud. She wasn’t a prude, but she wasn’t sure she’d ever been with anyone who seemed so in control of what he wanted and what he could give. “I’m not as creative as you are.”

Wes wrapped a strand of her hair around his fingers. “I doubt that.”

“Trust me, I’m not.”

“You could be, with me.”

Nerves skittered in her chest. She wanted to. But she didn’t even know where to begin. Not that she thought she was bad in bed. Not that she didn’t have experience with men. But she’d never talked about anything besides protection. She’d always figured out what worked and kept a list of what to do. She didn’t play. Except with him? “I could.”

His jeweled stare smoldered—and her cell phone rang.

She jumped. “I keep the ringer on in case there’s a problem—”

“You don’t have to explain.” He reached for her phone and handed it over as he got out of bed. “I’m going to go find us coffee.”

Kimbra’s name was on the screen. Bailey answered and heard Matt talking a mile a minute before she even got to say good morning.

“That sounds like you have a big day planned,” she finally interjected.

Matt took a deep breath and updated her on everything they’d had for breakfast, all delicious, and said Mrs. Lacey would take him out as soon as she arrived for work. “Are you doing anything fun today?” he asked.

“Driving home.” She pressed the phone against her cheek and winced. “I should tell you, I fell and bumped my face. When you see the bruise on my cheek, you’ll know why.”

“Did you need a Band-Aid?”

“More like an ice pack. But it’s okay. I promise.”

“Grandma says I have to brush my teeth before Mrs. Lacey’s here. Bye!”

The call ended, and she grinned, talking to herself, “Bye, kiddo.”
