Lukas sat back and ran a hand through his hair. “What the hell does that mean?”

“I don’t know… did you see who left the note on the door?”

He shook his head. “No. It wasn’t there when I went to the canteen, but when I came back it was just taped there.”

Blaire read over the cryptic message again. The first line seemed fairly obvious. She had deduced something was different about her blood; it seemed to be the general assumption among everyone around. The “different” element remained up for debate. And the “lover’s bond eternal” had to be the Korrena bond. But the rest of the message lost her.

“Maybe we should show it to Professor Velastra?” Lukas asked.

Blaire folded the message and put it back in the envelope. “There’s not really anyone else we can talk to about this kind of thing. We still don’t know who on staff we can trust.”

Lukas wrapped his arms around Blaire and pulled her close.

The Order hadn’t made another move since the night everything went down with Caleb, but that still didn’t mean they weren’t watching her and Lukas. It didn’t mean they wouldn’t come again for her blood. Unless they had found what they were looking for, she was still at risk of being attacked again.

Joining Blackthorn Academy had been the best decision of her life. At the time, she didn’t know it would be that way. The fight to get to this point had made her question everything from her sanity to her own self-worth, whether her choices were valid; but she came out on the other side stronger. She remained true to herself and was rewarded with a bond with someone from whom she would never walk away. With Caleb and the Wilcox family out of her life, Blaire could move forward with Lukas and try to find happiness.

But a dark shadow still loomed over their heads. Until they got to the bottom of what the Order wanted with her for sure, or until they discovered for themselves why human Blaire was destined to become a Korrena pair to a Vasirian, this peaceful reprieve would only be temporary.

One thing she knew for certain, though…

Lukas would be by her side through whatever storms were to come.
