“No, but it gives you time. I’m assuming Rosa wants to draw you out.”

“You call me with any update you fucking have, do you understand?”

“I will, but they aren’t going to hurt them. I’ll make sure of it.” Ben’s voice sounds sure, but it doesn’t convince me. The call ends and I see Jack staring at me with wide eyes.

“What did he sa—”

“Can you get the footage from the coffee shop? I need to see it.”

I need to see it, any details can help us right now.

“Uh, yeah. It might take me some time, but I’ll look into it.”

“Good. Take the driver’s seat, I need to get my bike.”

CHAPTER 24 CADE

I reach the house before everyone else; jumping off my motorcycle, I run inside, then I zoom past Karma and up the stairs into Jack’s room. I look at my phone and notice a text message from Jack that they should be here soon. I stumble over the keys as I try to enter his password.

I need to hurry. There’s no way Darian and his team could’ve gotten far with both of them. What the fuck was Jack’s password again?

After multiple tries, I finally gain entry, navigating to the file for Calli’s location. It looks like they dumped her phone at an airport.

Fuck.

I hear the door open downstairs and footsteps bounding up the stairs. It’s Jack.

“Did you find her?”

“They dumped her phone at an airport. They are already on their way to Boston.”

Jack runs his fingers through his hair.

“She’s not exactly helpless,” Alok says, looking up at us from the base of the steps.

“No, but they’ve most likely drugged her,” I reply, walking back downstairs.

Kai stands there, leaning on the front door. The plan doesn’t need to necessarily change, there’s just a higher risk now. We all need to stay focused. If I can get these idiots to work together, then we can rescue Calli and take down the Covenant.

Two birds, one stone.

“Jack, get ready to go.”

He doesn’t hesitate when he turns on his heels and begins packing. It’s good to have him back.

“Kai, are you coming with us?” I ask.

Kai looks up at me with a facial expression I’ve never seen on him. Defeat.

“Yes,” he replies grimly. “I will not lose her.”

“I’m coming, too,” Alok says from the kitchen.

I still can’t get over his creepy appearance. Long, pale blue hair and white glowing eyes. Those horns make him look like something that crawled out of hell. Kai and I both look at him with a blank stare.

“She’s basically my favorite human, and I am not letting this fucker go alone.” He points at Kai.

I nod and head to the garage to pack my weapons and other essentials, the uneasiness still heavy in my chest. Ben said we have time, so Rosa either needs something or is just sadistic. She did the one thing that would ensure that.
