Stupid Matchmaking Love

“How many rooms are booked today?” Stone asks as we make a sweep of the lobby.

“Twenty.”

He slips his hands into his pockets. “Not many.”

“It’s a new resort. It’ll take time for it to start moving.”

My cousin stops at reception, taking a moment to study the lobby. It’s quiet, the remnants from last night’s party completely cleaned up.

The party. Cristina. I’m not sure which one of us was a bigger ass.

I haven’t seen her yet this morning, but after waking up and taking time to look at our encounter with fresh eyes, I’d say I’m due to apologize—that’s if she doesn’t toss champagne in my face again.

Stone scrubs a hand down his cheek. “Hopefully, once the competition gains traction, business will boom.”

I lift a brow. “Is that why we’re doing this little contest—one I wasn’t told about?”

“Yeah. Sorry about that, but I thought you’d like it, want to take part.”

“To be matched with someone? I don’t think so.”

But even as I say it, the quilt gives off a soft thrum—reminiscent of the pulsing lights—as if it knows I’m lying. Not exactly lying. I’m simply not interested in being matched with just anyone.

But a certain petite blonde might be fun.

“Oh, come on,” Stone says, clapping my shoulder. “You sure you don’t want to find your partner? Ride into the sunset of happily ever after?”

“You’re only saying all this because you just got engaged. Last night, even. You’re biased.”

“That, I am.” He sweeps his arm in front of him. “What do you think about us having the wedding here?”

“Perfect. We can see about getting the event highlighted in a regional magazine.”

My cousin snaps his fingers. “That’s what I was thinking.”

His gaze lands on the quilt, the patchwork colors a kaleidoscope of comfort. That thing hums with power. This whole place does—being in this town is like working my way through a drug-induced trip. Only difference is that Widespread Panic isn’t involved.

Which is a shame.

As we stand by the quilt, cleaning people enter the lobby, pushing carts. Receptionists field calls, and the smell of bacon from the restaurant trickles through the air.

God, I love this resort.

Stone ticks points off on his fingers like he’s counting. “So we’ve got unicorns, piggycorns, lambicorns, and now magical matchmaking. Mystic Meadows has just about everything you want.”

“What’s gonna happen next? Bunnicorns will show up?”

“Don’t give the magic any ideas.” He glances at the ceiling. “You didn’t hear that.” Then he looks at me and frowns. “What would you do if a bunnicorn did turn up?”

“Find it a good home.”

“You wouldn’t take it in?”

“No, thank you. I’m all I need.”

“One day you might change your mind.”
