“Look at us,” she said.

“I know. A couple of fools in love.” He brushed a kiss across the top of her head. “At least, I hope—”

“Yes, of course I love you, you goof. And dammit, I had it all planned, how I was gonna tell you.”

“You did?” But his chuckle was obvious.

“Oh, you know I did. Have you met me? I plan all the important things. It certainly wasn’t going to be in a tent in the middle of nowhere, covered in the day’s dirt and grime and surrounded by other people, that’s for sure. It was going to be romantic, and perfect, and—”

But Mac had tilted her chin up and was kissing her before she could get another word out.

It was terribly romantic, and terribly perfect.

TWENTY

She loved Thomas MacAllister.

And he loved her. The realization sent a warm rush through her that had very little to do with sex. At least until Mac’s hand slid under her shirt and spread across the bare skin of her back.

Then it had quite a bit to do with sex. At least they’d both taken a turn under the solar camp shower before crawling into the tent. The sun-warmed water had rinsed off the worst of the day, and in the Basin, that counted as a luxury.

Jodie smiled against his mouth.

Mac pulled away barely far enough to look at her. “What?”

“Nothing.”

“That is absolutely a something smile.”

She touched his face, running her thumb along the edge of his jaw.

You love me.

She could get drunk on that.

Jodie kissed him again, slower this time, tasting him, letting herself linger. His fingers moved beneath her shirt, tracing her spine before settling at her waist. She pushed lightly against his chest.

Mac went back onto the sleeping bag without resistance, but his eyebrows rose.

“Ranch Girl?”

“Shh.”

“I didn’t say anything.”

“You were about to.”

He smiled.

Jodie knelt over him and pulled her shirt over her head. That wiped the smile off his face.

Mac’s gaze dropped immediately to her breasts, and the pure hunger there made heat curl low in her belly.

Oh, I like that.

She reached behind her and unclasped her bra.

“Jesus, Jodie.”
