“I don’t hate it. I think it looks like a luxury hotel designed for emotionally unavailable businessmen.”

“Tyler furnished it.”

“I know. That’s why I didn’t blame you.”

I crack another egg into the bowl. “You blamed him to his face.”

“He put chrome lamps in your bedroom.”

“They work.”

“They reflect things no lamp should ever reflect.”

“I’ve enjoyed the view.”

Her cheeks turn pink. “Same.”

I grin and whisk the eggs.

Charm becomes quiet beside me. I give her a minute before looking over. “What?”

“Nothing.”

“You’re thinking loud again.”

“I have one more thing I need to ask you.”

I pour the eggs into the skillet. “Shoot.”

“I want to buy a house.”

“Okay.”

She waits as I stir the eggs.

“That’s it?” she asks.

“What else do you want me to say?”

“I don’t know. I expected a discussion.”

“We can afford a house. We need more space. I’m down.”

Her smile spreads slowly, like she just won something.

I stop stirring. “Were you nervous?”

“A little.”

“Why?”

“Because a house is permanent.”

“So is the building you bought without telling me or the rock I just put on your finger.” I pull her close.

“A house is roots.” I look at her. “I’m down for roots, mi hada. I’ve never had them.”

Her expression softens. I turn back to the stove before that look drags me away from breakfast and her into bed.
