“Are you working?”
“No.”
She looked pointedly at the phone in my hand.
“I’m delegating,” I explained.
“That’s working.”
“It’s adjacent to working.”
“Mikayla,” she said in a warning tone.
“Julissa,” I copied it.
She held out her hand. I stared at it. She wiggled her fingers.
“You cannot be serious.”
“Hand it over.”
“I have a company to run,” I argued calmly.
“And I have a wedding,” she volleyed back.
“Your wedding doesn't start for another three hours.”
“Which means you have three hours to stop being the CEO of the universe and be my cousin.”
Before I could respond, my phone vibrated with a call.
Julissa looked down at the screen. Then back at me. “Seriously?”
“I have to take this,” I explained. “It’s Japan.”
“I don’t care if it’s the president of Japan.”
“Japan doesn’t have a president, they have an emperor and prime minister.”
Julissa held out her hand. “Phone. Now.”
Internally I sighed, externally, I kept my voice pleasant as I held up my finger, the pointer and not my middle one, no matter how tempting it was. “Just give me five minutes.”
“You said that twenty minutes ago.”
“And I was very optimistic twenty minutes ago.”
She snatched the phone out of my hand.
“Hey!” I reached for it, unsuccessfully. She had a very wide wingspan.
“You can have it back after your makeup is done,” she threw out arbitrarily.
“That’s an abuse of power.”
“I’m the bride. I have unlimited, absolute power today.”
She turned and walked away before I could protest further.
