A firefighter just carried me out of a burning building.
Two years ago, I was a nursing student, and a firefighter was rushed into my ER with a cut on his neck from falling debris.
I held him together until the helicopter arrived, and they flew him out before I ever got to know if he survived.
Now I’m being carried out of a burning building, about to pass out, and I’m losing oxygen fast.
I wrap my arms around his neck, trying to hold on, as my fingers run across a long scar on his neck.
He gently lays me down in the grass, looks at my face, and his eyes go wide
He whispers,
“I’ve been trying to find you for the last two years.”
