I turn around and walk out of the office.
I do not envy Adam with the decision he has to make, but I know the right decision, and it’s not giving into his father.
I know that his relationship with his father is complicated, but it’s about time he stood up for himself to that man.
Maybe I was more severe than I needed to be just now, but I panicked when I saw he was actually considering this ridiculous idea. I’m not perfect. I’ll apologize later.
I don’t know what’s going to happen, but being the proactive person I am, when I get home and put Brady to bed after dinner, I spend the next hour and a half looking for news producer jobs that look good online.
As always, I refuse to be caught unawares.
It will suck royally if GNN shuts down, but whatever happens, life has to go on.
When I’m in bed, something finally hits me. I’ve been so consumed about what all this means for my career that I didn’t even stop to think about what it would mean for Adam and me.
Could I be in a relationship with Adam if he chooses to tamper with my career in this way? He isn’t a bad person. Soif he decides to do this, it won’t be a decision he would have taken lightly. Still, that doesn’t change the fact that something so devastating happened to me as a result of something he did.
I’m not a crier. In fact, I can’t remember the last time I cried, but all of a sudden tears start spilling from my eyes as I try to stifle my sobs.
Adam hasn’t been back in my life for long, but I’ve developed strong feelings for him. It’s even possible that I’m in love with him.
I don’t want to think about that too hard because I might bum myself out even more.
What the fuck is life?
Just this morning I was giddy because everything was turning out better than I had any right to hope, but in a few short hours everything has gone to hell.
The contrast is astounding and makes me cry even harder.
What a nightmare.

ADAM
The last two days have been hell on earth.
It has been torture being on the outs with Kayla. She brings me peace and settles my soul in a way that I’ve never experienced before.
All I want to do is hold her. I know that’s all it would take to calm the tempest within me, but I can’t.
Actually, that’s not true. I could hold her in my arms all I want if we settled this issue between us, but neither of us has made the first move.
I don’t know her reason, but I haven’t extended the olive branch simply because I don’t know how.
What do I say to her?
When do I say it?
Where do I say it?
Given the nature of our work, I see her multiple times a day, and every time it’s like someone has set my skin on fire.
It was especially difficult last night. Brady and I spent the day together. When she dropped him off with me, I suspect he felt the tension between us, because he asked for his mother to spend the night. When she refused, he threw a fit.
It was the first time I’ve ever seen him cry and it ripped my heart out. That was a very real reminder of how things would affect him if Kayla and I don’t work out.
I feel a little guilty. Brady’s anger is directed squarely at Kayla. I don’t like that. Although we had a fun day together at Twinsburg Water Park, I know he’s still angry with his mother. This is evidenced by his behavior when I drop him off later that evening.
