Avi’s hardening length against his belly. Avi pushed him from their embrace.
“I’m sorry, Sean. That was incredibly inappropriate of me after what you shared.” He ran a
hand across the top of his head. “It’s whenever I touch you, the spark… I can’t control myself.”
“I understand. I know about the spark, too.”
Avi smiled, running a thumb down his cheek. “My brave, beautiful swan. Should we shift and
enjoy the sunshine?”
Sean smiled back. “We should.”
A rush of freedom filled Sean and he took on his swan form, flapping his wings to get the feel of
them, to settle into his avian self. He stamped his feet a few times, testing his body weight and the
change in balance of his now differently proportioned frame. He caught some air to propel himself
toward the lake—not enough to leave the ground, but to give him some forward momentum.
Right as he reached the edge of the deep, blue waters—a blur of brown and white flew past him
and he watched in awe as Avi shot into the sky with a scree. Sean might not understand eagle speak,
but he was sure his mate was urging him on. Anxious to feel the warm embrace of Vale Valley lake, he
held his wings aloft as he waded through the muddy silt. Once his chest met the resistance of the
water, Sean rested his wings and lifted his webbed feet from the slimy bottom.
Sean happily paddled along, more content and at peace than he’d been in what seemed like
forever. He made his way to the middle of the expansive lake, sometimes stretching his wings and
splashing around and other times simply floating along. A few fish swam lazily past, seemingly
careful to stay out of range of his feet.
The gentle heat of the sun on his feathers soothed him, and as he continued to float, Sean gazed
up at the clear, summer sky, mesmerized by Avi soaring above. The majestic eagle swooped down,
whooshing past Sean before racing to the skies once again. Sean’s heart pounded—the thump, thump,
thump like a drum in his ears as if heralding the arrival of a significant event.
Tonight. I can feel it in my soul. Tonight, he’ll claim me.
Sean spread his wings and flew across the surface of the water toward the shore, droplets of
water trailing off his feathers as he did.
He was done waiting.
Chapter Five
Avi followed Sean—his omega—to the room where Sean had been living since he’d landed in
