Chapter Twelve
Sascha cradled Dimitri in his arms as he rocked him in the gorgeous, wood rocking chair that had been a baby gift from Nic and Elam. Sascha hadn’t realized that Nic made custom furniture. The craftsmanship was incredible and Sascha knew the piece of furniture would become a family heirloom.
He’d just finished feeding Dimitri and hoped he’d stay asleep for Jasper’s visit so they could have a chance to get caught up on everything. He was pretty much healed since having the baby two weeks before, but Brandon and Cam still wouldn’t let him do anything. They insisted that he rest all the time, which was about to drive him crazy.
“Knock, knock.” Jasper poked his head in the front door. He put a hand over his mouth. “Sorry, I didn’t wake him, did I?”
Sascha chuckled. “He could sleep through a train wreck. But come in and shut the door. I’m freezing all the time since I had him.”
“Low iron?” Jasper took a seat next to him on the end of the sofa. “Oh, look at the little tufts of blond hair. That’s so freakin’ cute.”
“Yeah. I guess he was getting most of my nutrients, so I need to make up for it now. I swear, if Cam and Brandon kill one more animal for me to eat, they’ll all go extinct.”
“They’re just worried about you after everything you went through. That big bruiser of a baby tore you up, so they want to make sure you’re all right.”
“Dimitri couldn’t help it if he was too big for my womb. And anyway, the cut she made in my navel wasn’t all that bad.”
Jasper shook his head. “Nope. Don’t want the details.” He jumped up then flattened his sweater against his stomach. “Look! I’m starting to show.”
Sure enough, a small mound could now be seen in Jasper’s abdomen. “Awesome. How does it feel? Are you guys excited?”
The question was a silly one since not only had Jasper yearned for his fated mate from the moment he’d known what one was, but he’d even told Sascha he’d adopt if he had to so he could have children.
“So excited.” Jasper grinned. “Oh hey, did you hear? The Alliance isn’t pressing charges against Hawk!”
“I did. Brandon told me and Cam when he came back from the meeting last night. I meant to congratulate you. I can’t imagine how stressed out you’ve been over that.”
Jasper rolled his eyes. “No joke. I would’ve lost my shit if they’d sent him to that prison up in the Arctic Circle.”
Sascha shuddered. He didn’t think he could handle having a mate taken from him like that. “Obviously, Hawk won’t be returning to the Guardians, but have you decided where you’re going to live?”
“Not going back to the Yukon Deltas either, that’s for sure.”
Sascha nodded. “Yeah, me neither. We’ll be bringing my mom to Denali Junction eventually. What about your mom and sisters?”
Jasper’s grin lit up his face. “Okay, so this is so cool. Don’t say anything to Brandon or Cam yet. Of course, Brandon probably already knows because he’s on the council, so duh, but anyway… This is my big news.”
“Come on, Jasper. Out with it already.”
“Not only is Hawk off the hook with the Alliance, but Nic put a motion in at the meeting last night for Hawk to be his second here at Wolf Creek!”
Sascha’s jaw went slack. “No way. Did it pass?”
“Yup. This is officially our new pack! So, I’ll be bringing my family here.”
Sascha’s nose tickled and his eyes burned. He’d thought after giving birth that he’d be less hormonal. However, no one had warned him that post-partum depression or lactating would be just as bad—if not worse.
“What is it?” Jasper regarded him with concern.
“Jacked up hormones.”
Jasper’s eyes rounded. “Will I get like that?”
“Definitely. Only, you’ll probably be worse.”
“Hey!”
Sascha laughed. At least his hormones hadn’t completely annihilated his humor. “Kidding. Except for the hormone part. It sucks.”
