Blaze – Three Days Later

“We’ve held one too many fucking funerals lately,” Cage grunts, and I nod because yeah, we fucking have, and I take a swig of my beer, not taking my eyes off my wife. She is sitting by herself at the back of the room, Snow sitting right next to her, her head on her lap.

My mom, Alex’s mom, Knuckles’s mom, and now my girl's sister…

It’s a lot of fucking deaths, and to make it worse, all were fucking nasty pieces of shits, yet we fucking mourn…

My leg is throbbing, my head is spinning slightly from everything, but fuck, all I can think about right now is my wife’s mental health.

“And we always feel fucking sad and guilty when we shouldn’t,” I reply, and he squeezes my shoulder in understanding.

She blames herself but also knows it wasn't her fault. Her head is a little scrambled, and I don’t really know how to help her, and as it stands, every old lady is staring at her waiting for my okay for them to pounce. Alex is front and center knowing how she feels, but I won’t give them the okay.

She doesn’t need to be bombarded, she needs space, which is also why her mama, Ms. Hallows, is standing on the other side of the club's bar with Alice, watching her daughter.

“I can’t believe she even had a funeral for her, if that was me…” Drew sighs as she leans against her husband, and I hum.

“She felt like her sister should have been buried with her parents, and I didn’t have the heart to tell her that I’d rather her just burn the body and let her rot,” I grunt, and Cage snorts.

The prospects cleaned the house, ensuring there was no trace of what had happened, but my wife still hasn’t had the courage to return, and I think we may need to look for another property, not on club land.

Sighing, I murmur, “Right, I’m going in,” and Cage pats my back as I put my beer bottle on the bar and limp over to my wife, though I don’t miss Crusher holding his wife back, which in turn makes me smile that she wants to help.

As I get closer Snow wags her tail but still keeps her head down and I murmur, “Good girl,” as I pat her head before without missing a beat. I pick my wife up bridal style causing her to gasp and wrap her arms around my neck in shock and I take her seat and hold her close to me as I press my face into her hair, inhaling her.

“You smell like me,” I murmur, fucking loving that she does, and she hums as she places her face in my neck.

“I don’t have any bodywash here,” she whispers, and I grin.

“I might have done that on purpose,” I admit, and she snorts, “Why am I not surprised, my overbearing biker?”

I smile into her hair before she lifts her head up, and as our eyes connect, everything around me vanishes, and she is all I can see, all I ever want to see.

“You saved me, you know that?” I murmur as I cup her cheek, “When I met you, I was ready to make someone who wanted to hurt my family my old lady, and then in walks this headstrong, beautiful, funny woman. I was instantly entranced, and you saved me, but I’m scared I’m going to lose you…”

Her eyes water, and she whispers, “You’re not going to lose me, Linc. I can’t breathe without you, I love you, I just need a little time, that’s all.”

“Would it help if we sold the house and found somewhere else to live?” I ask, and Killer announces, “I vote for you to live behind the clubhouse,” but I ignore him and the several snorts, keeping eye contact with my wife.

No one else interjects, knowing I won’t live behind the clubhouse.

“No,” she says, and I hear Killer huff, but my wife ignores him and admits, “I love that house, I just need some time. My head is a mess because I’m mourning, but I’m also angry, and I won’t let her and the memory of what she tried to do take me out of our home.”

“Okay,” I say as I run my fingers through her hair, and I press my lips against her head and close my eyes and enjoy feeling her in my arms when I hear Clark ask, “So, when do I get to throw you two a wedding reception then?” and my lips twitch as my wife snorts.

“Real subtle, baby,” Trick chuckles, and I look to see Clark shrug just as the door to the common room opens and Cage shouts, “Well, it’s about fucking time, brother!”

I look with a grin to see Crash walk inside with Winter right behind him, looking extremely apprehensive.

I’d bet my Harley he had to drag her inside here…

“I’m just sorry I couldn’t get here in time for the funeral,” Crash says softly as he looks our way, and I smile as my girl blows him a kiss and he moves to walk this way. He pauses and raises a brow at Winter, who is not so shockingly staying near the door.

Huffing when she just raises a brow back, he grabs her hand and then drags her down the steps, making me chuckle while the brothers frown in confusion and my chuckle turns into a wince.

Shit, I forgot to tell them.

“Hey sweetheart,” Crash whispers as he kisses my wife's head, then squeezes my shoulder, and I give Winter a grin and say, “Welcome to the nuthouse, Winter,” and she chuckles as Crash stands beside her, and nope, I don’t miss his fingers twitching, like he needs to grab hold of her.
