Chapter 35

Sera

My lashes flutter open to the first blush of a periwinkle dawn peeking out behind the city skyline.

I stay where I am for a moment, tucked beneath a cosy blanket, listening to the quiet around me.

The pizza boxes are gone. My boots sit neatly beside the sofa, and my jacket is draped across the back of the armchair.

I turn my head, hearing the gentle rhythm of Fionn’s breathing. He’s laying back on the sofa wearing gray sweats and a white T-shirt, one arm beneath his head, the other resting between us.

Sleep softens the usual sternness of his face, so he seems at peace. Even dressed like this, with his hair ruffled from sleep and no suit in sight, he still carries power.

When I push the blanket aside and ease forward, his hand shoots out and snares my forearm before my foot reaches the floor.

I suck in a breath as he tugs, angling me into his chest, my knee caught between his legs, while his arm locks around my waist. His mouth presses against mine.

Our lips cling with testing licks and wet warmth. There’s none of the hard possession he usually brings to it, but the hand spread across my ass leaves no doubt that I’m staying where he put me.

“Good morning,” he says against my lips.

The rough shadow along his jaw grazes my cheek.

“Were you pretending to be asleep?”

“No.” His rich amber eyes drill into mine. “You make more noise than you think.”

“I barely moved.”

“You were leaving.”

“I was only getting a drink of water.”

His gaze travels toward the bottle on the table before returning to me. “Sure you weren’t trying to sneak off?”

I make a face at him. “My mouth’s dry.”

“That tends to happen after rum.”

“And pizza,” I agree.

“You only ate two slices.”

“I’m sure your security team enjoyed the rest.”

“I feed you, little wild thing. No one else.” His thumb strokes back and forth across my lower back beneath the blanket. “You’re smiling.”

“No, I’m not.”

“Yeah, you are.”

“I’m dehydrated. My mouth is doing weird things because it needs liquid.”

His lips cover mine, and the second kiss is firmer, wetter, hotter, pressing me into the sofa until the warmth around us has nothing to do with the heating.

“I like it when you smile for me,” he says against my lips.
