He grins, quick and charming. “See you around, Margot.”

And then he’s gone, and it takes me a few seconds to realize I never told him my name.

I collapse against my desk the second the door shuts behind him. I know I should get off my ass and get back to the kitchen, but I take a moment to catch my breath. I can still taste him on my lips. Feel the press of his mouth on mine, almost like he left an imprint. I reach up to touch my lips but quickly drop my hand when the door bursts open and Kira storms in.

“Margot!” Kira cries out, rushing to me and patting me down like she’s expecting to find me bleeding from multiple gunshot wounds. “You’re not badly hurt, are you? I stepped out for one second to return a call from my babysitter, and the next thing I hear is that a customer attacked you.”

“I’m fine,” I assure the frantic woman. “Are your kids alright?”

“Yeah, the sitter just wanted to know where I keep the kids’ snacks,” she says with a dismissive wave. “You have no idea how terrified I was when I heard.”

“Um…”

“Bishop is going to have someone posted up here by tomorrow, mark my words.”

“Bishop?” I ask. “You mean Bishop Cassidy, the owner of Cathedral? Does he usually get involved in things like this?”

“Not quite/ He’s hired tons of people to deal with them, but this happened right in front of him. There’s no way he’s letting it go.”

My eyes widen in shock. “Mr. Cassidy was in the restaurant tonight? Where? What table was he seated at?”

It’s Kira’s turn to look confused. “What are you talking about, Margot? The man literally—”

Her words are cut off by a knock on the door, seconds before someone else peeks in. I recognize the man as the head of the restaurant’s security.

“Hey Chef, Mr. Cassidy asked that I bring this to you,” he tells me, stepping in to hand me a gel pack. “He said that it’ll help with the swelling on your arm.”

Confused more than ever, I take the bag and thank the man, waiting for his exit to turn to Kira. “Why would the boss send me a cold pack?”

“Margot,” Kira says carefully. “You’ve met Mr. Cassidy. He literally stepped in when that asshole attacked you.”

“Stepped—” I shake my head at the thought of the handsome stranger I just kissed. “The tall one? Dark hair? He never gave me a name. Someone came to the door looking for him and called him Prez. I thought—” I stop because I can hear it now. I can hear exactly how it sounds.”

“Prez,” Kira says slowly, “is short for president.”

“Kira.”

“President. As in, president of the Steel Aces MC. Bishop Cassidy.”

I stare at Kira, slack-jawed, waiting for her to laugh and tell me that she’s joking. But Christ, she looks dead serious.

“No,” I whisper, unwilling to believe the man who saved me—whom I just kissed and let fondle my breasts in my office—is my freaking boss. Talk about making a professional first impression.

Oh God, I’m going to pass out. That would just put a nice little bow on an already messed-up night.

“Margot, are you okay?” Kira asks, grabbing my arm when I stagger. “Hey, you look a little ill. Maybe you should sit down. Or you can take the night off, and we’ll—”

“No,” I shake my head. “I need to get back to work. It’ll help me forget about tonight.” About kissing my boss and rubbing against him. Christ, I can still remember the press of his erection against my core. His groan against my lips.

I just kissed the president of the Steel Aces.

“Are you sure you’re ready to go back?”

“Yes,” I whisper, tossing the cold pack on my desk and straightening up. “Let’s get back to work.”

She seems hesitant to let me go, but she doesn’t stop me. We walk out together, and on my way to the kitchen, I tell myself that I won’t stop and look. I won’t peek into the dining area and seek him out, but I do exactly that.

One quick sweep of the dining room tells me that he hasn’t returned to the restaurant. There’s a pang in my chest as I question if I’ll see him again before I realize that maybe seeing him again isn’t the best idea.
